Understanding Our Fitting Sizes

Choose the right diameter for your tools, hoses, and vacuum units.

Standard 1-1/4″ diameter. Used for most small tool ports — sanders, routers, jigsaws, and compact extractors.

Mid-range 2-1/2″ diameter. Common on shop vacs, Milwaukee extractors, and medium-duty hoses.

Large 4" diameter. Used for dust collectors, large blast gates, and permanent shop duct systems.

Extra-large 6" diameter. Used for industrial dust collectors and central duct systems.

The Male / Female Connection Rule

Male connectors always point toward the vacuum source.

Dust and air always move toward the vacuum, so the male end of each connection faces that direction.

Once you know this rule, picking parts becomes easy.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need to buy a full system or can I start with one part?

You can absolutely start with a single adapter and expand from there. Many customers start by replacing just the vacuum-side port and add tool adapters one at a time as needed.

Will this work with my existing hose?

HoseJoy adapters work with standard shop vac hoses from 7/8″ to 2-1/2″ outer diameter. If you’re unsure, measure the outer diameter of your hose and compare to our product specs.

Are the magnetic connections strong enough to hold during use?

Yes — the neodymium magnets are strong enough to hold the connection under normal use, including when dragging the vacuum across a shop floor. They release with a deliberate pull, not accidental tugs.

My tool isn't listed — can you make one for it?

Probably yes. Visit our Custom Connectors page and submit a request with your tool make, model, and dust port measurements. We design and manufacture custom connectors regularly.

What's the difference between male and female adapters?

In the HoseJoy system, the MALE end points toward the tool (the source of dust), and the FEMALE end points toward the vacuum. When the two ends meet, the magnets click them together.
